Nicola Adams became the first female to win Olympic boxing gold (Picture: Reuters) Adams?s historic victory yesterday added a sixth gold to the county?s tally to put them ahead of the likes of the Netherlands, Jamaica and South Africa in the medal table, while they are also level on golds with sporting heavyweight Aussies. Adams was brought up in the Barmantofts area of Leeds and is clearly a proud Yorkshire lass. In one of her first comments after her victorious bout, she said: ?I?ve brought that gold medal back to Leeds.? Yesterday, the tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire even published a map to guide tourists around ?God?s own country? via the home towns of its athletes. And Yorkshire may not have finished with their gold haul just yet. Doncaster?s Sarah Stevenson is a medal favourite in today?s taekwondo, while Hull?s Luke Campbell goes in the semi-finals of the men?s bantamweight division this afternoon. As well as guiding Yorkshire to their 12th gold of the Games, Adams rounded off her day by meeting former Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan, having previously tweeted a picture of herself with sprint champion Usain Bolt.
