Because of people like Jamie Oliver and Food Nation, Joe Cross and Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, and the young people of ReThinkers, there is, thank GOD more and more attention being directed towards childhood obesity in America.
Finding healthy alternatives to processed and fast food is a lot easier and a lot less expensive then it was 5 or 10 years ago. Joining a fitness center or exercise program was not only expensive it was inconvenient to a lot of working families and the programs were not intended to support entire families. Now local playgrounds have programs for families, and communities have walking and biking trails, as well as shopping malls that open early for those who like to walk and window shop.

Weight of the Nation says, that ?childhood obesity is much more than a cosmetic concern. The health consequences of childhood obesity include greater risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and other serious illnesses. The combination of these health effects and the dramatic increase in childhood obesity rates over the past three decades causes some experts to fear this may be the first generation of American children who will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.?
